LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- A UCLA police officer shocked a student with a stun gun at a campus library after he refused repeated requests to show student identification and wouldn't leave, police said.

The student, Mostafa Tabatabainejad, was shocked Tuesday at about 11 p.m. as police did a routine check of student IDs at the University of California, Los Angeles Powell Library computer lab.

"This is a long-standing library policy to ensure the safety of students during the late-night hours," said UCLA Police Department spokeswoman Nancy Greenstein.

She said police tried to escort Tabatabainejad, 23, out of the library after he refused to provide identification. Tabatabainejad instead encouraged others at the library to join his resistance, and when a crowd began to gather, police used the stun gun on him, Greenstein said.

Tabatabainejad was arrested for resisting and obstructing a police officer and later released on his own recognizance. He declined to comment Wednesday night.

The incident was recorded on another student's camera phone and showed Tabatabainejad screaming while on the floor of the computer lab.

It was the third incident in a month in which police behavior in the city was criticized after amateur video surfaced. The other two involved the Los Angeles Police Department.

Acting Chancellor Norman Abrams promised an investigation.

"The safety of our campus community is of paramount importance to me," Abrams said in a statement.

Now people are saying that it was a racist act. Idiots. Yeah it was way out of line, but racist? No. The UCPD are just a bunch of power hungry assholes and I'm sure they were itching to use their stun guns the first chance they got. It happened in the computer lab I go to frequently. Scary. In a longer article in the Daily Bruin, a girl who was there said one of the officers threatened to stun her if she didn't go upstairs or something. Glad to know these are the guys responsible for our campus' safety.

I feel behind already. I am exhausted and kind of grouchy. At the start of my last year, I'm finally learning what it takes to go to class prepared, and I don't like it. How stupid is this assignment: read each chapter or article and write IN 20 WORDS OR LESS the main argument of the author. Yeah. For a 52 page article, I need to sum it up in 20 words. Right. Then I have to take the article that I was assigned and make up a question that relates it to the other readings. Lucky me, I got the introduction of the textbook where no points are really made. So I have that to finish before I can go to sleep. And I haven't even started on my reading for my primates class, I hope to do all that tomorrow after work. I think I enjoy class one day and work the next, and so on. It's better than having to do both in one day, even if it means 6 hours of class.

I can't remember the last time I've been so excited for the release of a DVD. Yes people, the Little Mermaid comes out today. My mom was supposed to get it for me at Target today but I don't know if she ended up going. I can always get it this weekend though and I'm looking forward to torturing Dustin with it. So many good things to watch. LOST comes back tomorrow, hell yes. Unfortunately I have to wait for SOMEONE to get here this weekend so we can watch it together. Bummer. At least I have Project Runway Reunion Special to get me through the day. My goal is to finish all my school crap by 7 so I can be free to watch everyone pick on Keith, who definitely deserves it. Oh and I saw Ugly Betty and really liked it so that's one more thing to DVR and force Dustin to watch with me. Not to mention UCLA football this Saturday. I have a feeling all we're going to do now on the weekends is sleep and watch TV. Oh wait, that's all we do already!

I made that sushi with a make-shift sushi mat: my potholder wrapped in plastic. It tasted like sushi but it kinda fell apart.

Right now my brothers are having a party since my parents are in San Diego for the weekend and I'm fucking pissed. They're bumping some shitty music and it's 10:30 at night. I hope my 80 year old neighbors call the cops. Execpt that my 19 year old brother is drunk or high or both. I'm seriously so disappointed in my brother. He's turned out an asshole too. I went out there to look at the damage and told him that he better clean all that shit up and he just rolled his eyes at me. He's really an asshole sometimes. As for my step-brother... he has no future. THIS is his future. I am so excited. I upgraded my LJ account to Plus, which sounds like a dumb thing to be excited about. Well actually it is dumb. Anyway, when you have a plus account, you can make your own emotion icons!! So mine are now Project Runway themed! I swear, I worked on them for at least 2 1/2 hours, but I'm very happy with the results. I didn't get Austin or Jay, but I'm probably going to keep adding new pics as I find them. ...has got to be UCLA's biggest perk. It makes me love it just a little bit. So on Monday after my final I sold my Spanish books back and got $88. Just that put me over the moon. Then last night I collected all the books from past quarters that were collecting dust, hoping to get maybe $50. How about $183.50?!?! Holy crap, that brings my almost grand total to $271.50. And I still have to sell my anthro books right before my 3pm final. I expect at least $20, if they're buying them back. I am so so so so so so happy right now. I have money for Seattle!!! I had money to buy Dustin a present!!! I just have money, which is such a great feeling considering how tight it's been lately. I don't even like buying food on campus because even $2 is too much. But this makes my trip to Seattle even better because now I can enjoy myself without worrying about how I'm going to pay for things.

Man does today suck. I only have two finals, one tomorrow and one Wednesday, since I dropped a class, but I still feel so stressed. Not really cuz of finals because I think I'm ready, but just of next year and then what's going to happen after I graduate. I was looking at the SDSU page of the SLP graduate program and it said that the average speech language pathologist with a freakin PhD makes about $55,000 a year. Five years of school after UCLA and only $55,000 a year?!?! Don't doctors make like waaaay more than that?? That's shitty. I don't know why I always do this to myself during finals, but I just tend to think of what's coming next. And seeing as next year is (hopefully) my last, it seems like it's finally appropriate to be stressed. I was also looking at the practice GRE. I think I'll be fine on the writing portion, but aside from that I'm a HORRIBLE test taker. I should be studying but my mind keeps wandering away, thinking about what else I could possibly do after UCLA. Hopefully I'm as ready for my finals as I think I am.

I love Dustin more and more everyday. I am constantly amazed at how much my love for him continues to grow, considering how much I've loved him from the start. There appears to be no limit as to how much love I can feel. I like that.

Right now, I should be studying but I'm thinking about too many things to be able to concentrate. I'm finishing up my 3rd year at UCLA, just 3 weeks to go, and I'm still finding myself unsatisfied with my school experience. I'm totally interested in Linguistics, but it's destroying any chance I have of getting into grad school. For my midterm in Typology, I got a 103/250. That's a 41%. Yeah. Thank God that it was only worth 25% of my total grade and that I've been kicking ass on the homeworks, which is 50%. But the best I can do now is a B. I'm gonna have to do better than that to get my GPA up. So, as much as I love Linguistics, I need to change to help my GPA. I've decided on Anthropology with an emphasis in Linguistic Anthropology. I won't have to take any more Ling classes, because I've already taken all the ones I need for the emphasis. I think I'm much better at Anthro, plus I'm interested in it just as much as I'm interested in Ling. So this will be major change #3 and I hope it's the last one. Before I actually do it, I'm gonna go talk to a counselor and see how long this is gonna take me. Hopefully not too long. I'll probably be there an extra quarter. No more than 2. I hope. My mom said it doesn't matter. To me it kind of does, but I've been thinking that I should really be more concerned about raising my GPA than graduating on time. I might be able to do it anyway. We'll see. Apparently in the Anthro major, almost all the classes for the specialization overlap into the specialization. I will have to take some Archaeology classes though, which shouldn't be too much fun. Oh yeah, and the other cool thing about this major is that all I have to take is Japanese 1, which is one quarter as opposed to a whole year. And no more Spanish. This should also help me arrange my schedule in a way that I don't have to go to campus every single day. Even one day off would be really, really helpful. The more I think about this idea, the more I love it. I only wish I had done it sooner. I hope an Anthro counselor can see me this week. It seems like everyone is trying to change their major at about this time.

In other college news, Dustin graduated. It was nice and I'm so proud of him. Then we had cake and pizza with all his friends. I talked to Daniel's sister, Sara, for a long time. I liked her so much, she made me realize that sometimes I do like talking to girls. And Jen, Itza, and Zoraida too. Just not girls that suck. Daniel also graduated, and we went to his party on Saturday. That was pretty much all we did all weekend. Dustin got a new TV so we made good use of it. It's nice but I still don't really see the big deal about it. He absolutely loves it though so that's really all that matters. And he seemed truely surprised by my present, which was nice too. I got him some DVD. Phantom of Liberty. It's foreign. He picked it up at Tower last weekend and I went back and bought it after he left. Yay me. Now I need to find him a damn birthday present.

Three weeks and three days of finals till the end of this quarter. I'm itching for the summer. Even though it's just more school. But it's only one class per session and tons of Phino time. I just can't wait.

I guess things have been pretty good lately. I've been on a super tight budget because of the car payments and I'm really proud of myself for sticking to it. I *really* miss spontaneous shopping trips and treating myself when I feel I deserve it, but I'm learning to treat myself in non-material ways, like the DVR. God, what would I do without that thing? I'm watching more TV now than I think I have since high school. I'm hooked on Lost, American Idol, Top Model, Amazing Race, and Deal or No Deal, in that order, not to mention the Food Network. Oh and Top Chef, since Project Runway is over. I think Dustin and I saw 4 or 5 full episodes of Top Chef yesterday, which I must say is 10,000 times better than the Next Food Network Star. So make-up splurges: out, TV marathons: in. I'm sure Dustin prefers this by a million.

School is actually going really, really well. I've been getting A's or high B's in all my assignments, except for my most recent one, which reeeeeeally bummed me out. The biggest challange for me will be midterms, which are going on right now. I had my Spanish one on Friday and my Syntactic Typology one is tomorrow. My Cultural Antho one isn't till a week from Thursday! I love late midterms! So basically, my quarter is determined right now. If I do well on all my midterms, I'll be that much more determined to kick ass. If I do badly, I'll give up. Not that I'll choose to give up but I know it'll happen. So I'm really hoping to get high B's or better on all my midterms. A's, if possible. Tomorrow's midterm is open book so I really don't see why I shouldn't kick ass on it. It will probably be my hardest class to do well in and so far I have an 86% average. I had a 95% average until I got my last assignment back, which is why I was so upset. I still have 5 assignments and 2 exams to bring it back up though, so it didn't bother me too much. The reason why I'm so determined to get straight A's this quarter is because I want a 3.0, which is only possible if I have straight A's. Even one A- will leave me at like a 2.98, so I neeeeeeeeeeeed A's!!!

Hanging out with Dustin is better than ever. I just got back from his house this afternoon and I'm missing him so much already. I'm glad he's so understanding about my budget because it definitely affects what we do when we spend time together. Probably the most fun thing to do (aside from laying in bed laughing at each other) is to look at the puppies at the pet store. Yaaaaaay, they're so cute :) Even if we couldn't do that, the time I have with him is what keeps me going all week. I'm so proud of him, he's graduating from SDSU a week from Friday! He's worked so hard and I'm so so so proud. I can't wait to see him graduate :) I also can't wait till we get our vacation after my finals. Chillin in Seattle is just what I need after this quarter, especially since I start summer school as soon as I come back. We're already making lots of plans, mostly just where to eat, hahaha. He wants to go to this place that serves French fries with a bunch of different dipping sauces, I want to go to a cupcake bakery, and we're both anxious to try this place called Agua Verde that I saw on Rachael Ray's Tasty Travels. Halibut tacos, mmmmm. Seattle is the best place in the world, I wish we could move there but I'd miss my mom too much.

Whoops. I better get back to studying. If I don't kick ass on my midterms... I'm sure you'll hear about it.
